Shemar Smith developing IQ in transition to inside linebacker; Tim Tibesar wants more defensive leadership: Beavers notes

CORVALLIS - While not splashy, one of the more consequential position changes for Oregon State football this spring has been by Shemar Smith.

Far more subtle than Christian Wallace's move to running back or Mason Moran's recent switch to wide receiver, Smith is playing inside linebacker for the first time in his life after spending his first two years at OSU on the outside.

"It's more of a mental game out there," Smith said Monday.

Smith said his first meeting with new inside linebackers coach Trent Bray involved a projected move to the middle.
