For Maryland men, it must be the season of the brick

With its hopes of reaching the NCAA tournament via an at-large bid no longer viable, the Maryland men’s basketball team has but one option: staging an improbable run through the Big Ten tournament to secure an automatic berth. Wednesday’s 68-61 loss to visiting Northwestern made such a path even more daunting.

Maryland (15-14, 7-11) absorbed its third loss in four games in large part because the Terrapins shot a season-low 2 for 22 (9 percent) on three-pointers at Xfinity Center. The defeat kept the Terps among the bottom four teams in the Big Ten, meaning they must win five games in as many days to win the conference tournament next month.
